LYRICS

The Only Ride

It’s another day to rest your mind.
Caught up in a word, that leaves you way behind
There you go! You got a story to call your own
You repeat it again and again
Cuz it’s only your closest Friend
It’s the only ride, You know.

My Head

I wanna find a place to go to.
Someplace to call my own.
I can lay my wearly head there
Relaxing all my bones
Take me to a place of solace.
Nothing can go wrong.
When it gets late at night.
I wanna get it
Out of my head!

The Now

Everywhere I go I’m in the sand
Can you understand?
What am I do to without a better plan
Every love I find
Will never be the only one
I live it every day
Just looking for that rising sun
Here I’m in the now! That where I

Comfortable In My Skin

All of my senses, They rule my life
It’s all I’ll ever know.
As I work myself, to the bone
Always try to make what I call home

Please! Tell me!
What is the fire I breathe
What will become of me?
I believe in my own self
Cuz it keeps me
Happy! And comfortable in my life
And in my skin
That’s where I’ll begin

Production

Early work

This song started in 2019 as a unplugged guitar tune with scratch vocals. The song was recorded in Santa Barbara in many many takes. Originally it was planned to be a longer song but I wasn’t sure how I wanted to create it. The essential chord pattern for the intro, verse and 2nd verse (which was a bridge originally) was written on my Strat(s) before recording ever started and the verse melody was in my head before the first track went down.

Musicially

Each verse shares the same chord structure except that 2nd one. It was also written before recording and has just a guitar pattern that moved up and down the fretboard. Also, the ending pattern is actually an extension of the verse chord pattern and ends in a two chord cycle at the end. There was deliberate decision to speed the tempo up after the 3 verse and to go into a longer jazzier instrumental with synth involved and echoing.

Recording

The long instrumental intro part came first, then the 1st verse and bridge (aka verse 2) came next and the song ended there. I worked a while on the first part to get the feel of where it was going but I already had the melody in my head for the verse before I ever started. Verse 2 melody was improvised and I like that it following the guitar line so I kept it different from the rest. Sort of a broadway writing style. The 3rd verse arrived after this very layed back instrumental section was created to give an underlying synth beat. This dangled for a while then I literally jammed the rest of the song to almost the end and really liked it. To sum up, I added the 4th verse and started my many polishing sessions (that’s what I call them). That took a LONG LONG time and I’ll spare you those details, but it involved multiple guitar takes, innumerable refinements of the lyrics takes, drum backing refinements, bass work, audio mixing (over and over), sonic placement, level balancing, etc.
